Every registration has one simple reason behind it: either the law forces it, or it protects you. This guide gives, for each one, why you need it, when it starts, what happens if you skip it, which documents to keep ready, and what we can prepare for you. Penalty amounts are as per the law as we know it on 4 October 2026; confirm the current figure before you act.

Frequently asked questions

Which registrations are compulsory for a small business?

It depends on what you do. GST applies above the turnover limit, FSSAI for any food business, Shops and Establishments for shops and offices in Telangana, and a GHMC trade licence inside Hyderabad city limits. Udyam and trademark are optional but useful.

What if I do not register in time?

Most late registrations carry a penalty on top of the tax or fee. Food and drug businesses without a licence can face criminal action. Registering late is almost always cheaper than being caught.

Do I need both a Shops Act registration and a trade licence?

Often yes in Hyderabad. The Shops Act is a labour law registration and the GHMC trade licence is a municipal permission. They are different offices and one does not replace the other.

Is Udyam registration compulsory?

No. It is free and voluntary, but it gives access to MSME loans and protections.

Can Anukram prepare my documents?

Yes for the documents listed above: rent agreement, partnership deed, MoA and AoA, affidavits and letterhead. We tell you which ones you must still collect yourself, such as ID and address proofs.
