Yes. Under the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988, an establishment must register within 30 days of starting work. It is done online through the Telangana Labour Department portal.
The government fee depends on the number of employees at the time of registration. Reported fees start at ₹100 for no employees, ₹500 for 1 to 5 employees, ₹1,000 for 6 to 10, ₹2,000 for 11 to 20 and ₹5,000 for 21 to 50, with higher slabs beyond that. We confirm the current slab before we file.
If your premises are within Hyderabad city limits, the GHMC trade licence is a separate municipal permission. It is not the same as Shops and Establishments registration, and you may need both.
Employees earning up to ₹15,000 a month pay nil. Those earning ₹15,001 to ₹20,000 pay ₹150 a month, and above ₹20,000 pay ₹200 a month, with a yearly cap of ₹2,500. The employer deducts it and pays it.
The registration applies to establishments, and the fee slab starts for establishments with no employees. A sole shop or office in Hyderabad still usually registers. We tell you if your case is exempt.
